There was a time when my wife, who loves our son too much like every mother does, wanted to open up a school at home for our child. That dream turned true after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world. But, the pandemic has adversely affected almost every sphere of our lives, including education. Children today are being taught their curriculum online.

But, is it good for the child? The answer is no it is not

In fact, studying from home has forced every child to miss school, which is still he most crucial part of their lives, . Teachers teaching in a classroom full of kids is a thing of the past. Every child is stuck with the new reality of ‘online classes.’ However, children’s physical and mental health are suffering as their screen usage increases.

Excessive screen time, according to Dr. Sudha. B, Senior Consultant Neonatologist Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, might cause the following difficulties in your child: Dry eyes as a result of digital eye strain; Headache; Neck ache; Disruptions in sleep; A shorter attention span; Behavioral changes such as impatience, refusals, and excessive arguing; and Impaired socialisation abilities.

Kerala State Education Minister V. Sivankutty also addressed the state Assembly on Monday that online lessons are harming schoolchildren’s health.

Sivankutty stated, citing the findings of a survey conducted by the State Council of Education Research and Training, that 36% of students experience headaches and neck pain, while 28% have eye trouble. He went on to say that parents should be made aware of the dangers of using digital devices.

Dr. Sudha suggested a couple of tips for parents to help children cope up with screen time stress.

Don’t let screens disrupt your children’s sleep: When youngsters use devices close to bedtime, blue light can disrupt sleep patterns and circadian rhythms. Turn off and remove screens from bedrooms at least one hour before bedtime.

Never overlook digital eye strain: Digital eye strain symptoms include dry eyes, itching, and a burning sensation in the eyes. Severe eye strain can result in headaches as well as refractive problems such as myopia and astigmatism. When you give your eyes a break, they will improve. Allow your youngster to follow the 20-20-20 rule, which allows his or her eyes to rest intermittently:Make it a point for your child to take a 20-second break every 20 minutes and stare at something 20 feet away.

Control the changes in behaviour: Children are becoming irritable as a result of excessive screen time and less interaction with family and friends. Poor attention span, not listening when talked to, constant fighting, and throwing age-inappropriate tantrums are just a few of the signs. To avoid this, parents should engage in fascinating and beneficial interactions with their children that spark their curiosity. Encourage your child to participate in extracurricular activities such as athletics, music, and art.

Handling screen time – Don’t ever use screens as pacifiers, to avoid tantrums of the child. Begin digital disciplining for the entire family with a tiny step, such as not eating while staring at phones or televisions. Weekend noneducational screen time should be limited. Attempt to have screen-free weekends. Technology isn’t without its benefits, but every parent should learn the art of digital disciplining.

An implant does not restore normal hearing. But, it can give a hearing impaired a useful representation of sounds in the environment. It can also help him or her understand speech.

A cochlear implant is not like other hearing aids. It bypasses damaged parts of the ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve. The implant creates signals that the auditory nerve transmits to the brain . The nerve identifies the signals as sound. It takes time to learn or relearn how to hear with a cochlear implant because it differs from regular hearing. Many people can notice warning signals, interpret other noises in the area, and hear conversation in person or over the phone thanks to it.

Who can get cochlear implants?

People who are deaf or severely hearing impaired can get cochlear implants.

The FDA first granted its approval to the device during the 1980s to treat hearing loss in adults. The FDA has approved it, since 2000, for use in eligible children starting when they are 1-year-old,. For young kids who are deaf, using a cochlear implant exposes them to sounds at a critical juncture in their development of speech and language skills. According to research, a young child who has a cochlear implant followed by intense therapy before becoming 18 months old, can better hear, understand sound and music, and communicate than those children who receive implants later in life.

Indian AI-enabled health and fitness app, HealthifyMe bills itself as India’s largest digital wellness platform. The app has over 25 million subscribers spread over 300 Indian cities and approximately 1,500 coaches.

HealthifyM is now its way to further growth, after raising a $75 million in a Series C funding round led by LeapFrog and Khosla Ventures.

HealthQuad, Unilever Ventures, Elm of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, and repeat investors Chiratae Ventures, Inventus Capital, and Sistema Asia Capital also participated in the investment round.

So far, HealthifyM has been able to raise over $100 million from various investors.

It uses artificial intelligence to provide subscription-based health and fitness services like calorie counting, one-on-one nutrition and fitness coaching, and diet and workout regimens.

Available on both iOS and Android devices, the app also features AI nutritionist Ria who acts as a personal health assistant.

Just a year ago the world was waiting for scientists to create a vaccine to end the troubles it was facing due to Covid-19. And now, the the European Union (EU) is looking to develop and launch COVID-19 vaccine passports.

The EU will launch these passports in partnership with the the airline sector and the governments of some Asian countries. The partnership aims to ease travel and give a much needed boost to the global tourism industry.

Travelers would now be able use cellphone apps to prove they have been vaccinated. This could help them avoid onerous quarantine requirements at their destinations.

The user’s official or authorized e-immunization record would be contained in the Covid-19 vaccine passports.

Britain’s National Health Service app allows fully vaccinated users to prove their status when traveling overseas. But,the EU, China, and Japan are working on their own digital vaccination certificates for cross-border travel.

Any official vaccination certificates will be stored in smartphone apps, like the mobile wallets that would be launched by the EU by June, 2021.

However, the multiple efforts highlight the lack of one central global system to electronically verify vaccination status.

While questions related to privacy and vaccine inequality linger, the projects are also facing technical issues in collaborating.

Concerns have also been raised about the misuse of data to “control people, restrict freedom and erode privacy.”

Motivating interview of User Experience Designer at Optum – Life And Crime Stories

An interface engine, aka integration engine is a software program that processes data between numerous Healthcare IT systems. Think of it as the nerve center or traffic cop of all the data that flows between multiple technologies in a hospital or other Healthcare organization.

This is my 100th post on Blogger’s World and I am glad to bring you the  motivating interview of Imran Saif, who is User Experience Designer at Optum. Mr Saif designs healthcare interfaces with the goal of making healthcare experiences better for everyone.

I really appreciate the spirit of this young man. I especially like the part of the interview in which Mr Saif says: I had a brother who was schizophrenic and we as a family suffered a lot to treat and adjust with him. This experience made me think a bit about what career I should pursue. I took up psychology as a major in my graduation because of this.

I have called it a motivating interview because at the end of it Mr Saif says: It is okay to fail. Learn from your failures and focus on gathering knowledge.

According to me, a person who learns from failure indeed has a long way to go before they sleep.
