Being a Girl

I’m beginning a small series of songs involving the feminine gender. I begin with songs that have the word girl in the title, then moving on to songs with the word woman and then I had the thought that after woman, the next highest status would be queen. Since there are songs with the word queen in the title then it would be appropriate to include them. The photo is of me as a little girl with my favorite beach ball.

A Musical Journey Through My Life

Vocal Media presented me with a challenge. The challenge was to write about certain moments during my life along with songs that make me remember these moments. My journey begins when I was born.

The world was smiling on a Friday in March 1957 when I came into this world. Somewhere on the radio, Elvis was singing “All Shook Up” and my parents felt the same way. With a battle cry, I had come into this world. Elvis played a part in our family when I was a toddler. I was fascinated with watching this man on TV and the moves he was making. Dad saw his daughter was not paying him any attention and he made me laugh when he imitated Elvis.

Bye Bye Miss American Pie

American singer and songwriter Don McLean is known as the “American Troubadour” or “King of the Trail” to his many fans. His biggest claim to fame is his hit song “American Pie” from 1971.

In 1969 McLean began his musical journey by releasing his album Tapestry. Even though this album did not bring him great fame it included the successful song “Castles in the Air” which charted on the Easy Listening chart.

The Phenomenal Fab Four

The Beatles came on the scene when they were most needed by the world of rock and roll. With their unusual hairstyles, awesome music, and popularity they quickly became known as The Fab Four. However, it seemed that as quickly as they skyrocketed to fame they were also changing in many different ways and even though you would expect that a band like this would have come out with at least 50 albums they disbanded after releasing 12 albums. But with all the compilations and other special releases it was enough to make them legends and very successful on their solo musical journeys.

The Magic of ABBA

The Swedish band ABBA is the only group that could creatively take the first letters of their first names and come up with the name of their band. The four members of the band are Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad. Together they became internationally famous.

Believe in love. Believe in…

Monday Magic – Always Keep Believing

Believe in love. Believe in magic. Hell, believe in Santa Clause. Believe in others. Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams. If you don’t, who will?
― Jon Bon Jovi

Isn’t it always so if we keep on believing and if we open our minds to all kinds of possibilities so many things can happen for us that it simply is like magic. Everyday things are happening all around us and we have the choice to seek them out or hide away. Life would never be half as much fun if we did not sometimes walk on the wild side and let the child inside of us come out to play.

There are so many places I have discovered in life that it seems they magically appeared to me. However, if I had not gone out looking for them, if I had not been interested to see what is around the bend, then I would have lost out on so much. I lived a great part of my life in New York City where I was born and raised. One summer day I was walking around the hot streets and turned into a little street I had not even notice before. There among the buildings I discovered a little cafe with a waterfall coming down a brick wall. Suddenly I was no longer on the street sof NYC but in a tropical oasis as I sipped a cold beer on that hot afternoon.

There are many wonderful songs that have magic in the title and many of them inspires you to believe in the unbelievable.

“Do You Believe in Magic” The Lovin’ Spoonful In this song the magic referred to is the way that music can give you the happiness and freedom to feel really good about yourself as you listen to it. Isn’t always that way when a day is dull and dreary we put on some music we enjoy and suddenly like magic everything seems to be all right.

“Magic Carpet Ride” Steppenwolf tells us that dreaming is all right that dreams can take us away from the ordinary and take us on an incredible journey. Sit back and listen to the song and perhaps you’ll imagine you’re on a magic carpet ride.

Now you know!

Why they called my presence intimidating,

Why i was shown out,

Some people start turning in their graves,

Others wake-up and start dancing with me!

That’s why!

Now you know!
