Zoho employee shows you don’t need a degree to learn coding

This story is about a young man whose inspiring post I came across on Linkedin. The man named Abdul Alim starts his post by saying that he left his home in 2013, with just 1000 rupees, and spent 800 on a train ticket.

Abdul Alim does not seem to have much of a formal education, but today he is a proud member of technical staff at Zoho.

The article by Abdul Alim is given below:

“In 2013, With just 1000 rupees, I left my home, spent 800 on a train ticket. After roaming for 2 months on the streets, finally found a job at a security desk.

One day, one of the senior employees of the company, asked my name and said – Alim, I can see something in your eyes (sounds filmy I know). He asked me about my studies and my computer knowledge.

In school I learned a little bit of HTML. Then he asked me If I want to learn more, and this is how My learning began.

Since every day after completing my 12 hours security shift, I went to the senior and learned.

About after eight months, I created a small app. An app that takes the user input and visualizes it. The senior employee showed the app to his manager and he liked it. He asked if it is possible to interview me.

I thought I will not be interviewed ever because I did not go to any college and studied only will 10th. He told that in Zoho You don’t need a college degree, What matters here is you and your skills.

And the day came, gave the interview and ..passed it.

Today it is my 8th year in Zoho Corporation.”

Creation of the same God

People belonging to different religions kill each other senselessly, thinking they are fighting for the cause of God. But they fail to understand and remember that we have all being created by One and the same God.

That God is the Beneficent and Merciful one whom the Hindus know as Eishwar, the Christians call God and the Muslim pray to by His proper name Allah.

Remember to smell the flowers

A long time ago I had read a book of one of the world’s top leadership experts, Robin Sharma. In that book, Mr Sharma had written that it is important for us to celebrate even the small achievements that we make on the way to success.

Be The Change!

Let me tell you a story today.

Once upon a time, there was a little boy who loved eating sugar.  He would chew on his sugar granules throughout the day. His mother was worried that this excessive gorging on sugar would take a toll on his  health. She tried everything from gently coaxing him out of this habit to scaring him to hiding the containers, but to no avail. Finally, she decided to take him to his idol, Mahatma Gandhi, so that the great man could talk some sense to her child.

So the next day, she started on the journey with her son. When she finally reached his Ashram, she saw that hundreds of people were waiting to meet the great man. When finally their turn came, the mother explained to  Gandhi the whole situation, and requested him to talk to her son. Gandhi smiled at her and said, “Please come back in 2 weeks time and I shall speak with your son”. She was confused, but she left without any protest.

Two weeks passed, she went back to the Ashram with her son and this time, Gandhi immediately spoke to her son. Curious, she asked Gandhi why he hadn’t spoken to her son the last time they had come. Gandhi smiled and said, “Well, two weeks ago, I too was eating too much of sugar”. He couldn’t preach what he didn’t practice.

It’s easy to complain about the world and other people, but if you cannot implement the changes in your own life, then you have no right to complain. Don’t be a hypocrite!

We do not have control over others. We cannot change others, only ourselves. If you want to see some change in the world, you must start with yourself. Every significant change that has ever happened in this world has been the result of changes which began at individual level. Revolutions have happened because one person had the courage to stand up for what they believed in  and didn’t wait for others to take action. Now, you don’t have to pick up your megaphone and yell for a revolution if that’s not something you want to do. Just be an embodiment of what you believe in and you might be able to move others with your belief too.

But in order for things to change, you have to change. Don’t just complain how this world sucks. Be the Change!

Resilience is the key to a better life

There is a popular American English proverb that says,

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going”

The proverb means that when life brings you challenges, strong people don’t just sit there doing nothing. They rises to the challenges and face them bravely, and are always successful provided they are resilient.
