Four questions to better your relationships

Have you ever had a chance encounter with a stranger? I’ve often wondered why those experiences occur with one individual but not another. In her essay How to Change Your Life in One Second Flat, Katherine Schafler addresses her idea that we always ask four questions of everyone with whom we have connections.

These queries, which she claims are inspired by Maya Angelou, are ongoing appeals for acknowledgment and affirmation on a large and small scale.

Psychotherapist John Gottman refers to these demands as bids, which are “any attempt from one partner to another for attention, affirmation, or affection.”

Not every bid will be responded, but what counts is that you respond yes to the bid at least 85 percent of the time. This is true for all types of relationships, including transient ones.

The four questions are as follows:

  1. Do you notice me?

2. Do you mind if I’m here?

3. Is that enough for you, or do you require something more from me?

4. Is it possible to tell that I’m significant to you by the way you look at me?

You can stop wasting food and save money; Here’s how

Every year, over £2.1 billion of fresh fruit and vegetables are thrown away in UK homes because they have become mushy, mouldy, or are out of date.

Fresh produce’s fate is determined by how it is stored, and storing it in the fridge will afford you more time.
Apples, for example, may be stored in a fruit bowl for more than 100 days, far longer than in a refrigerator.

A special consultant for domestic food waste at the environmental organisation Wrap, Helen White, says, “The only fruit in my house is bananas.” But, before you start rearranging your fridge, make sure it’s still cool.

The typical UK fridge is set at 6.6 degrees Celsius when it should be set to less than 5 degrees Celsius.
If you’re not sure how to regulate the temperature, the Love Food Hate Waste website includes a step-by-step guide.
It also includes a helpful A-Z guide to food storage.

Using the freezer “hits the pause button” on food spoilage, according to White, ahead of Food Waste Action Week, which begins on Monday.

However, she emphasises the importance of properly defrosting meat and poultry before usage.

This involves taking it out of the freezer and placing it in the fridge the day before, or using the defrost setting on your microwave.

The freezer is a handy tool for single-person families, which squander more than larger ones, generally because it is more difficult to buy the proper quantities.

White recommends freezing food in portions that “make sense for your home.”

Do you feel tired all the time? Here’s why

Although sleep quality is crucial, there are numerous other lifestyle factors that may be causing you to feel exhausted all of the time. An expert describes the most prevalent problems and how to solve them. Tiredness can have a significant impact on your quality of life.

“Sleep is incredibly personal,” says Dr Lindsay Browning, a chartered psychologist and the founder of Trouble Sleeping.

“One of the most common causes of fatigue is a lack of sleep, so determining how much you truly require is critical.”

However, your sleepiness could be due to a variety of different lifestyle reasons.

Dr. Browning has described eight typical causes of fatigue and how to deal with them in this article.

The first cause: You are not getting enough sleep.

Dr. Browning says, “You’ll be sleep-deprived if you don’t receive the amount of sleep you need.”

Dr. Browning recommends keeping note of how you feel 15-20 minutes after waking up to see if you’re getting enough sleep.
“If you get between seven and nine hours of sleep and feel refreshed after waking up and like you have enough energy throughout the day, that’s the appropriate amount of sleep for you,” she says.

You can experiment with different amounts of sleep to find which one makes you feel the most refreshed.

However, Dr. Browning emphasises that the way you feel when you first wake up is not a good measure of whether you’ve slept well or gotten enough sleep.

This is all depending on when you awoke throughout your sleep cycle “She emphasises that this should not have a long-term impact on your sleep quality or exhaustion levels.

If you’re getting significantly less than seven hours of sleep or significantly more than nine hours of sleep per night, Dr. Browning recommends double-checking that this quantity is appropriate for you and experimenting with obtaining between seven and nine hours of sleep to see how you feel.”

What’s the biggest difference trust makes in any relationship

People think that trust is the most important quality they look for in a spouse, and trust is what makes human groups function.

In partnerships, trust is vital because it helps you to be more open and giving. If you trust your partner, you are more inclined to be forgiving of their flaws or annoying behaviours because you believe in them and know they have your back.

Mira Kirshenbaum says, “The biggest difference trust makes in any relationship – and not just an intimate one – is that you can relax, be open, be yourself.”

Mira Kirshenbaum is the author of eleven books that have been translated into over twenty languages, including the influential Too Good to Leave, Too Bad to Stay; Parent-Teen Breakthrough; Everything Happens for a Reason; and The Weekend Marriage. She is a two-time finalist for the Books for a Better Life award.

Let food be your first medicine

Whole foods act as medicine to heal and protect your body and boost your immune system. Many nutrients in food promote health and protect your body from disease. Eating whole, nutritious foods is important because their unique substances work synergistically to create an effect that can’t be replicated by taking a supplement.

What are the technologies that can upgrade humanity?

Any athlete or astronaut will tell you that the human body is pliable. However, the rate at which our physiology may be naturally changed is slow in comparison to the quick repairs that technology can provide.

As augmentation technology advances, our species may become more reliant on much more invasive and permanent technologies.

There is no shortage of characters in science fiction who have been augmented by some type of technology.

Iron Man, Tony Stark, wears an electronic device within his chest that keeps him alive and controls his metal suits.

In the 2015 film “Mad Max: Fury Lane,” Imperator Furiosa wears a dangerous-looking metal prosthetic limb that looks to have been fashioned from fragments of power instruments and that she uses to establish her reputation as a fierce fighter.

Here’s what happens when our electronics creep inside our skin and force us to reconsider what it means to be human.

Cancer Treatment

Oncologists have already used CAR-T therapy to put certain types of cancer into remission.
It works by collecting a patient’s T-cells (a kind of white blood cell), adding a receptor that targets their malignancy to the outside world, and then reinfusing them back into the body. In theory, because the reengineered cells may multiply on their own, they may provide long-term protection against that type of cancer, preventing recurrences.
