Hi everyone, I need some…

Hi everyone, I need some advice (and sympathy!). I am in northern Ecuador, with the most incredible scenery, heading this morning to Quito, and even more incredible stuff to photograph. I am due to go to the cloud forest of Mindo for my first ever birding hike on Friday. (No the sympathy doesn’t come in yet)) My camera is broken. From my experience with this model and with everything I can find online, I will have to send it to Sony, and it is a $300-400 fix, from the States, where I won’t be for a very long time. Cameras are so expensive in Quito that some people fly to Miami to buy theirs (I have considered it, but I haven’t found a flight cheap enough).

So, those of you who are amateur, or otherwise, photographers, what has you experience been with using a smartphone, such as an iPhone, for general photography? I need a smart phone anyway, and it would, well, I won’t say kill two birds, but solve two problems. I have heard that the technology is good, and so is the post-production software. What do you think?

Without my camera, I feel lost!

New Forum Name!

Dear friends,

Last week we incorporated tagline. Now it is about tag.

Blogging 101: Alumni received a great number of votes when we did voting in August because nostalgia was deep. I never thought that this was going to be the name forever. Still, if most of you feel it should be left intact let us know.

This blog is open to all WordPress bloggers regardless of their having taken Blogging University course. WordPress bloggers because in order to interact here you need a wordpress account. If you blog on Blogger or Tumblr or somewhere else and still want to interact here with a WordPress account you are most welcome 🙂

Award Rules

I have written the below rules for entry/registration for the Forum Awards. I would encourage all members to go through the rules and advise of any changes/additions/deletions to the rules. I will also write separate rules/procedures to follow for each of the award categories and post it separately.

Rules for Entry into the Forum Awards:
1. The blog must be live at the time of entry.
2. The Awards are open to anyone that writes a blog – whether they are members of the Alumni Forum or not.
3. Each blogger may enter into two categories. Entries can be made during the registration process after which the blogs entered will be open for a poll on the B101 Alumni Forum. During the registration process any member of the forum can suggest a blogger for an award category. Bloggers cannot nominate themselves.
4. The B101 Alumni Admins will nominate the Top 5 suggested blogs for each category for voting in the polls. Only the Winner of the Award will be announced, the poll results will not be public.
5. Each Award will have its own set of procedures to follow. Should the winner choose to accept the award, he/she is expected to follow through the procedure like answering a set of questions or nominating other bloggers for the next award cycle.
6. A blogger who has once been chosen a winner for a particular category of award, shall not be eligible to be nominated for that particular category again for a period of one month. There are no restrictions for again nominating the bloggers who were previously nominated but did not win in the same category.
7. There are 4 Award categories. Registration (nomination) will be open for a week after which it will be open for poll on the forum. Each week one category of awards will be conducted.
8. The B101 Alumni Forum Admins are not eligible to be nominated for any category of awards.
9. The Alumni Admins reserve the right to disqualify entries that contain offensive material.
10. All blog entries submitted must be legal and with the permission of the blog owner (especially if you are nominating a blogger who is not a B101 Alumni Member)

A Time To Celebrate!

Srinath’s post was 1000th post on Alumni forum 🙂

This is a beautiful synchronicity that this beautiful post with two pictures, which is sharing of happiest moments of his life, also became the 1000th post on this lovely forum. This is what this forum is for–to share love, happiness, friendship, art and chat a lot of chattering–useless talk 🙂

I would like to take this moment to thank all admins, volunteers and friends from the core of my heart for making this forum a success and a wonderful place.

Our weekly features are working wonderfully well. Our member counts is gradually increasing and we regularly provide feedback to most of the visitors here 🙂

#feedback Has been given on more than 350posts. Though many of us don’t use the feedback tag so sometimes it becomes difficult to keep track but it must have been more than 350 posts 🙂

#help has been given on about 92 posts 🙂

The forum is soon going to complete 3 months. In these 3 months it has been a source of pleasure, friendship and learning for so many of us. I am sure with your friendship and support it will keep flourishing. I also want to work on forum awards in months to come. Since some of our members were busy I delayed working on them but they have been on my mind for long now 🙂
