Ideas for New Monday Weekly Feature

Mondays are now free, with the current Word Nerd Etymology feature coming to an end.
As this was quite abrupt and not planned in advance, I have to admit being caught off guard. For now we shall have to currently share a variety of interesting guest posts spanning different topics and genres to fill the Monday slots.

I remember some of our discussions from the previous time and now we can implement some of the other ideas that had been floated then. We even had a poll , you can see some of the other ideas here.

World Personalities – similar to Author Story. To ensure peace and harmony on this forum, we’ll have to keep the subject of Politics off limits. Focus should be on personalities from the world of Music, Sports, Art & Architecture, Business and Economics, Subjects like Mathematics, Philosophy, Religion, Astronomy etc.
Travel Articles – Could be general articles on travel, or a specific place, or a travel review. One need not be a travel blogger to attempt this. Personal stories of a family vacation are welcome too.

Please let me know what you prefer. And would you like to go in for polling again or should we just arrive at a consensus and go with the majority.

We only have Josh (I think) who does animal research. I like animals and always enjoy trivia about animals. Would others be interested in that general subject? It could include pictures and stories on one’s own pets or stock pictures and research about wild animals. It would be a good place for photo lovers to shine and a relatively new place for them to share their travels but spotlighting the animals seen in those travels. A real African Safari – at home or abroad. Something like that might be a nice name. An African Safari starring one’s pet kitty cat or Josh’s tigers. Worth considering?

  That might be very limited. I’m left wondering how many of us actually go on safaris to be able to run a feature on it. We already have a photo feature. I’m thinking more on the lines of how to encourage more participation.

    I was definitely in the pretend kind of Safari, but I would think it would be a real problem if that were the interpretation. My Safari only take me to my brothers rabbit cages!

      ahaahha! pretend kind of safari. I like those safari where we humans are in a cage or a closed bus and you go around the park without disturbing them. You’re allowed to get off the bus or open the windows. You’re not allowed to disturb or feed the animals etc. oohhh!! Rabbits sound so cute.

I vote travel stories or leaving the day empty for guest posts on any topic. Because currently you can just do a guest post on any day, am I right? I think one sticky post a day – whether it’s the weekly feature or a guest post – should be enough.

Guest posts are few and far between , Susan. Usually, requests for Guest Posts are accepted depending upon the schedule and available slots. If we dedicate a single day to guest posts only, most of those slots would go empty. For sticky posts, three are the accepted norm.

How about keeping it very light?
I’m thinking of keeping it as an inspirational quote or a story that we could share. It could be something fun or profound to drive away the post weekend Monday blues. It could be from a famous personality shared here as a quote, or a written account or story based on personal experience. That way the only prompt/theme is that it be inspirational. Rest depends upon the contributor as to how long or short they want the post to be. What do you all think?

  I think a quote could work – inspirational or not. 🙂 I agree about giving freedom to the contributor to decide how long he wants the post to be. If they just want to share a quote itself is as fine as if they use it to write a post about a topic.

  How about Monday motivation? Just A Lady With A Blog does that every Monday, and she is popular. Maybe we could all motivate each other with our Monday Motivation posts. They involve inspirational quotations, stories, or even our own personal connections to the inspirational posts. Or we could maybe do Monday Grateful posts. I got that idea from Once Upon A Menopause, a woman who is having the best menopause that I have ever seen in my life. I hope mine goes like hers. Anyway, she posts what she is grateful for, especially on Mondays, and then adds an inspirational quotation to strengthen what she is grateful for.

  Not yet, was out of town on a family emergency and was unable to work on it at all.
  Am leaning toward the inspirational post idea though. We could call it Monday Magic or something. Still open to suggestions.

Some excellent suggestions already. I’m a bit late adding another idea to the mix – how about ‘Monday’s Make Do and Mend’…? or it could be ‘make, do, or mend…’ – second one kind of ties in with ‘motivational’… maybe… or maybe it could be an either or kind of thing… that probably makes no sense, apols if not clear(!)

Such wonderful ideas!!!! I can’t possible choose a favorite. Could we run each for a limited period of time–eight weeks, maybe,–then switch? If one turns out to be wildly popular we can always circle back to that topic.

I look forward to reading the posts that come from these suggestions–lots of enthusiasm and creativity in this discussion!
