Global Tiger Numbers Increase for the First Time in 100 Years

I have wonderful news to share with all of you! For the first time in over a century, global tiger numbers are on the rise! They’ve gone from 3,200 wild individuals in 2010 to 3,890 now. That may not seem like a lot, but for tigers it’s a significant gain. Not long ago they were considered doomed, and these figures show that’s not the case. There’s still hope for tigers.

The biggest gains were in India: largely thanks to rigorous anti-poaching measures, plentiful eco-tourism opportunities, and sustainable development.
