Friday Feature: Quotes and biography of an author

Mark Twain

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was born on November 30, 1835. He was one of the most famous American author and humorist of all times. Lauded as “The greatest American humorist of his age”, William Faulkner called Twain “The Father of American Literature”.Twain began his career writing light, humorous verse, but evolved into a chronicler of the vanities, hypocrisies and murderous acts of mankind.

Mark Twain authored more than 30 books throughout his career. A complete bibliography of his works is nearly impossible to compile because of the vast number of pieces written by him and his use of several pen names. His major classics include “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”

Mark Twain was a galaxy of ideas and stories. Stars like Mark Twain are born once in a couple of decades and this was miraculously proven by the fact that the birth as well as the death of Mark Twain was witnessed by Halley’s Comet.

Twain was also a riverboat pilot, journalist, lecturer, entrepreneur and inventor.

Biographies are but the clothes and buttons of the man. The biography of the man himself cannot be written. These were the words of Twain.

It is not easy to choose from the mass of great motivational words of Twain, so I have chosen the three quotes which I personally like the most. Hope they will guide you in your journey too!!!
